Kiwi Icon Alert

An often-photographed icon from the southern hemisphere. I liked how the roofline mimics and points at the mountains in the background. Cloned away a white notice on the door.

Canon T1i, f/8, 1/80 sec, ISO-200, 232mm, handheld.

I agree that it is interesting how the roof mimics the peaks. Great use of clean, natural light in this image. I'm not sure if it's the tight composition, the deep shadows in the bottom 1/3rd, or a combination of both, but the image feels a bit cramped. Seeing as how this was hand-held, did you have time to fire off any more of this scene?

Of course Joel, I made many more images running around as the sun went down and my wife frowned
One of the problems with this site is that the parking for the church is right in front of it. On this particular evening there was a white van parked there which didn't allow for much foreground at all. I'll attach another view from a little earlier but again the carpark was an issue.

I like your repost Dave. Better colors and contrast and not so tight. You most certainly get around. Well done.

Dave,

I like the re-post as well, I think it gives the image better balance and feel. The light is absolutely gorgeous in this one!!

Very nice work Dave!!

The hardest thing about photographing the chapel at Lake Tekapo is not getting twelve tourists in the photo, which I see you avoided by getting up early. You must have backed up to the far end of the parking lot! My only technique comment (very minor) is the focus seems to favor the mountain at infinity just a bit rather than the chapel.

South Island NZ is so spectacular, looking forward to more NZ photos!
