River Birch & Fog

This is a picture I made last week while hiking along the Wisconsin River. We had some heavy fog in the early morning and I went out hoping for some nice early morning light. When I hiked by these river birch trees that early light and fog made me stop for a longer look. This is the picture I made of that scene. Larger version included and thanks for looking.

The tree limbs stand out well against the brooding background, and the smattering of bright leaves is a nice contrast. Looks good to me. No criticism here.

I like this a lot Nick. Love the light and details but I particularly like the light on the leaves. Well seen and beautifully presented.

What a cool shot, Nick. I really like glimmer of the limbs interspaced with dabs of color of the leaves. The large view really opens this up and I enjoyed your walk immensely. :wavey:

Beautiful light and image. My only possible optional suggestion might be to crop out the lowest band of cyan (water?) at the bottom edge to reduce the composition to just the trees against a dark background. Still very nice as presented.

Impressive light and comp, Nick. I really like the mood here with sunlit limbs with their remaining fall foliage against the darker BG. I am glad you noticed this beauty.

Thanks so much guys for your thoughts on this! I really wasn't sure how well others would like this, but I knew I was enjoying this moment quite a lot myself. I'm glad you are enjoying it too. Thanks, Nick

Nick,

The large version of this one makes me feel as if I were standing where you stood seeing this beautiful scene. It speaks of November, and how the days are becoming shorter, the leaves are falling, and a new cycle of the year is beginning.

Beautiful capture!

Nick, I like this a lot. Great patterns in the criss-crossing branches, and the subtle color and light on the leaves is really nice. :toast:

Very nice, Nick. Very artistic. Could use of the backlighting and foggy bg. The isolated leaves are like ornaments and make the image unique. :toast:

Really like the blues and grays in the back round Nick and the fine details with sparkling hilites. Cool shot.

This is very stark and dramatic, Nick. The light on the trees and especially the scattered leaves really lets them stand out. A very interesting and different take, that is best seen in the larger version.

I love it, Nick! This is the kind of scene I often admire, but almost never photograph, because I can't find a "composition." The light, colors, and textures enhanced by the dark background are beautiful. Great eye!

Glorious light, Nick, glorious light. Love the pattern of the glowing tree branches set against that dark somber fog, with the leaves like stars interspersed throughout. Outstanding. The large size image is fantastic.

A delicate feel. Those few remaining leaves in the upper 1/3 add so much to the shot for me. Maybe consider a slight crop off the bottom to keep the uniformity of those isolated leaves in the image.

The light hitting the birch and the dark background really makes this shot pop Nick, the last few remaining leaves are a nice bonus too.

Well scene, Nick.
You have an eye for these scapes.
I like the bits of color here and there, really adds to the scene.

I saw this one last night but was too tired to comment. I find this to be very striking, Nick. The deep blues from the fog make for a striking backdrop for the brightly lit branches. The remaining leaves add splashes of color throughout. :toast:

This image just seems to say that winter is coming. It feels at once foreboding and peaceful.

Dan, Brian and Mark, Thanks much for your thoughts on this! I too liked the color splashes from the few leaves that were left and I guess that was the first thing that caught my eye. It also makes me think about the coming winter we have ahead of us. Sounds like we might be getting our first real snow this coming Monday! Nick
