Maine Tidal Pool

A buddy and I spent a week scouring the Main coast for lighthouses and fishing villages. I found this tidal pool at the Pemaquid Lighthouse. The lighthouse was so crowded with people that I turned my attention elsewhere and found this image. Olympus E-M1 with 9-18, 9mm, ISO 100, 1/400 at f8, -0.7EV.

I like the comp and the leading lines. The blues might be a little intense.

clever comp. I agree with Murphy on the blues.

Agreed, blues are a bit intense. I had overdone them to get the print colors correct, and then forgot to tone them down in the digital version.

Steve, This is an interesting comp and I think it works very nice! All the lines in the rock take you right into the image. Nice textures and colors too. The blue was already mentioned and you explained that so all is good! Nice job turning your attention elsewhere as well.

Nicely done, Steve. Yes, there is more than the lighthouse to shoot, the coastal rocks are crazy. I was there last month, shot the lighthouse but more of the rocks. :toast:

I really like this ultra wide angle perspective, Steve. Other than the overcooked blues this comp has a lot going for it. Super clean and I like the fact that the trees show little distortion. Very nice. :toast:

Those rocks at Pemaquid are a photographers dream, Steve. I like the way they take me into the image and that pool of water is great. Good call on forgetting the lighthouse.

Interesting perspective. I like the lines of the strata and the pool. Just a thought: Crop out the sky. The full frame (or the crop) would also look nice in B&W.

The contrast of the lines and colors is attractive Steve. I like the dash of green from the side, but a comp that removed them would leave just the blue and gold and be an interesting shot too.

There is a similar pool on the rocks due south in which a reflection of the lighthouse can be captured when the wind is calm. See my portfolio. I visited Pemaquid many times as a boy and once worked as a dishwasher in the hotel at the point. Nice lines and color but perhaps a little oversaturated.

Excellent Steve. I like the low perspective and rock colors are gorgeous - would love to see a intimate rockscape of them.
