Dream tarn

A small water body near Dream Lake which I wanted to take a picture of for quite sometime, but somehow every time I was in that area ended up shooting Dream Lake or the other ones near by. It was a pretty windy morning without any clouds on Hallett, so I decided to shoot the reflection from the tarn instead of being at the lake itself. This is a blend of 2 exposures with the foreground at 1000 ISO and 1/4 sec trying to freeze the motion a bit. Provided a larger version.

Thanks for your c&c.

Hi Soubhik, Ive made countless trips to Dream and for whatever reason I have no idea where this gladed body of water resides. I like the comp here, and your shooting process in using a faster speed for the foreground makes a lot of sense. The thing I would work on with your recent images is color. More specifically white balance. Have a good look at your sky and ask yourself if that color mimics what you saw that morning. I get the artistic license idea and if this hue of sky is pleasing to your eye then so be it. To me, the sky seems too cool and almost too greenish/cyan. Warming this scene up a bit in WB or Color Balance would work for my taste.

Hi Kane, thanks for your comment. There is a shallow area just after crossing the bridge to the right that almost always is filled with water during summer. I am traveling today but will work on the hue of the sky whenever I get a chance. :wavey:

This is a nice and peaceful scene. I agree with Kane's suggestions. You might also consider cropping this from the left to a point just left of the left-most boulder in the mid-ground. Doing so would improve the compositional balance, I think. The greys and the whites look pretty good.

It is a nice scene and Kane,s suggestion about the color is correct for me.
I also think a crop off the bottom would work well.

Soubhik: A place I frequent every time I go to the park but the last time I shot from this area everything was frozen over. I wonder if you could have altered your camera position so that Hallett was in the clear in the reflection and not partially obscured by the FG grass? I do love the light and on my monitor the sky looks OK. >=))>

Great suggestion by Bill. Comp is number one priority in my mind.
