Bryce Point Storm

I am processing some shots from last September in Bryce. This particular evening storms rolled through continuously. I was the only one out on the point (which is rare). Lightning was getting closer and closer so I finally had to give up. As I was leaving a bus load of tourist arrived and proceeded to the point in spite of warnings. Didn't hear of anyone being struck by lightning but they certainly were a lot braver than I was.

An inspiring photo. The details in the large image are most enjoyable. No criticism here.

The hoodoos look good in b&w, which shows off nicely the banding in the rocks. I also really like the curtain of rain seen in the distance.

Very cool Gary, the large image is amazing, love the curtain of rain in the BG. You caught all kinds of mood with this. Beautifully seen and presented.

Always a wise move, Gary. No need to get lit up for ANY photo op.

What you do have here is very nice overall view of the canyon area. The rains and or virga in the distance adds to the ominous look to the scene. I do think the B&W treatment was the correct call on this one too....

Gary - Love the bright area through the bottom of the canyon to pull my eye along. A trail  No river there from my memory, which is getting poorer  While it is probably level, it feels tipped CW. I would level using the far butte in the rain, since my eye and brain want that to be level,I think. I realize it might be a balancing act with the far right buttes. Also regarding processing at least for the web, maybe brighten then add a little contrast to the central dark trees so that there form stands out.

Striking scene Gary and I applaud your common sense in getting out of a hazard area. I particularly like the comp and the sky and the conversion in general looks good to me with the exception of the darkest band which looks too dark on my MacBook. Beautiful image.

Gary, I really like this, and it looks great in your large version! I thought the shadows might be a little dark in the 720 version but that went away when I clicked on your larger one. For me it feels level and looks good so I don't see a problem there. I like the b&w very much and think your large version is an amazing view.

Really dramatic, Gary.
I am in the minority, but would like to see a color version....
It is a bit dark in the canyon for me.

Like the drama of that 'top-heavy' storm a rollin' in, great POV of the canyon Gary.
Excellent job of exposing & converting to B&W, love the distinctly contrasted light/dark areas..
Well composed - Very well done! :toast:

Very nicely done, Gary. The tonal range is excellent, and I like your composition. I do see some wide angle distortion near the left and right edges--not a big deal though.

You were prudent to seek shelter when the thunder roared!

Wonderful image. I like the high contrast and the creek down below that perfectly compliments the storm in back giving the photo a nice balanced feel. One of my favorites of yours.

Very nice. Lots to enjoy, and tons of leading lines to help guide ones eyes through the image. Always seems like a battle; getting those dark, dramatic moments while staying safe in the outdoors. It takes a LOT to turn away from good photo opportunities, but its always good to hear someone making the right choice!

Gary, as I had the pleasure of telling you yesterday, this is outstanding. A wonderful scene captured expertly. It's great as a B&W, but are you opposed to trying a version in color? (More for my own curiosity - I have no qualms about your decision). :toast:

Real nice, Gary. Like Harry, I am getting the feeling of it being tipped a bit. I know it is level, but still get that when looking at it. Great conditions and fine capture.

There is brave and there is stupid.

Fantastic in B&W Gary. B&W always seems more moody to me because you see the scene and not the color. Contrast and tonal range works well.

Superb Gary. There's a lot of power in the way the textures come together. The virga is a great touch.
