Gone With the Wind

The title refers to the dead tree no longer being there. It was blown down a couple of winters ago.

The conditions when taking this were awful, lashing rain and blowing a hooley and I have tried to get this across in the final image.

All feedback is welcome, good or bad and thanks for looking.

Gary.

I think you accomplished what you were trying to get across Gary, and the B&W certainly gives it a mood, I like this alot, definitely has a lonely feel to it. Beautifully presented.

Lonely old boy, Gary. I like the feel of this image. Taking stark to a whole new level. If it were mine I might add some selective dodging and burning for some effect, however, I think going so middle grey adds to the mood. Well done. :toast:

Nice stark scene. I would prefer it without the toning, as a straight B&W, but that is very much a personal preference.

Gary, love this old tree out in the open and under these severe weather conditions, seems to put a story to the whole scene. Would also like to see this in straight B&W as Harley has mentioned, but, those things are always personal thoughts and nothing to do with the fine image as it's posted.

I agree with the others - a very nice image. I do think the bottom third is a little lacking in visual interest.

Gary, You really captured a lonely mood in this scene and I like the story it seems to tell. I like it fine just as processed, and I think it would be interesting to see as a straight b&w as well. Good work getting that mood!

Gary,

I like this as posted my only thought is that it might have been possible to isolate the tree a bit more by putting more sky behind, if you could have made the image by moving to your left. Just a thought though. I like the image, particularly the mood, as posted.

I love the mood of this, Gary. I agree with Harley and Paul regarding the toning. You might consider increasing the contrast in the mid tones just a bit. You've got some detail in the grasses that could be delineated more.

I have no idea what a 'hooley' is, but I don't think I'd want to meet one in the wilds.

Nice image.

Wonderful capture of that lonely tree Gary. The blue tone adds to the chilly feeling.

Cool idea Gary, and the stark processing fits well. My preference would be for the tree to be closer, more frame filling, if centered. As is, I'd vote for it being place a little more off center.
