White-winged Dove (Zenaida asiatica)

Place: Phoenix, AZ
Date: May 11, 2012, 9:26 am
Equipment: Nikon D300, Nikkor AF-S 300/2.8, TC20E (2x), G1325, RRS BH-55, Sidekick
Exposure: ISO 400, Aperture priority spot metered, 1/100th @ f8
Raw, PS CS3 on Mac, 88% of full frame

Another back yard bird, this time with the longer lens and the glass door open.
I know the clipped tail will ruin the shot for a lot of people, but I like it anyway for the colors on the dove.

I agree with you on the colors Richard. That blue eyeliner is spectacular. You need to market that color. I wouldn't say the clipped tail ruins it, but it may have been just a bit better with the whole bird. Amazing colors and great detail where it counts.

That blue around the eye is stunning. The clipped tail doesn't bother me because it not in focus.

Great close-up portrait of this bird, Richard. Amazing colors and details in those interesting eyes! While the exposure of the background is a bit bright, your spot metering did make for a perfect exposure on the bird. I'm not bothered by the clipped tail since, as Mark said, it is not in focus.

I like the sort of high key take on this dove, Richard. Really cool eyes and the detail is phenomenal. Clipped tail no problem for me.

Really nice work getting the colors on the Dove, Richard. And a very good bird, too.
