Northern Bobwhite
by Kurt Bowman
Just sitting in the airport making my way through thousands of shots from the week. Spent a few days in south Texas, both at the ranch (SC) and at a State Park outside McAllen. Not sure what was bothering this male, but he stopped on his toes, shipped and sprang only once. Was lucky enough to have my lens pointed his way.

18 commentsRight place, right time, lens pointed in right direction. :) Sweet image. Love the open beak, the dangling feet, the blurred green background and the detail. Really nice Kurt.
Are you sure this was not a track meet. This interesting action looks like he is in the broad jump. Wonderful catch with great technicals.
I love the leaping pose, with beak open, wings back and toes extended.
if ti was just a snapshot you managed pretty good sharpness.
Super congrats on a fine WP. I thought this might get it when I first saw it. You gotta be happy with a shot like this. Way to go!!!
