Canon 5D Mark II, Canon Macro 100 mm. 1/40, 5.6. I'm new to macro and hoping to learn a lot from this forum. Found this web in my garden early in the morning.

Nice contrasting BG, the dew covered web stands out well Lucy.
If this was mine I would come in tighter, eliminating the clipped dead heads bottom & URC.
Well done:toast:

Hello Lucy, The web really stands out against the BG and the dew adds much interest. I'm a little uncomfortable with the OOF grass, but I don’t know if the shooting conditions allowed you to shoot from a different angle. Hope to see your spider image soon. Well done!

I agree with the comment about moving in closer. It would be nice if more of the web could be in focus but I know that's hard to do.
I like how it shows up against the BG, and you can see what it is attached to. That is neat.

I like the geometric design, which is emphasized by both your comp and your title, Lucy. I also like how well the web stands out from the bg.

Thank you for the thoughtful comments. Here's a repost based on your suggestions.

The web looks good, and the soft, oof, yet colorful background works very well. The trick to getting more of the web sharp is in having the camera back parallel to the web. Don't know if that was possible here or if it would have resulted in a distracting background...just something to think about in the future. The repost is nicely improved compositionally, but it's clear where you cloned out the seed head and stem on the right.

Thanks Mark. Since the 3 seedheads are an important part of the main subject I purposefully wanted to suggest the one already in the bgd but not attached to the web, so I didn't completely clone it out. Maybe too subtle a decision, who knows? I appreciate your thoughts.
