The Mister

Or nth generation thereof. We have had Violet-Green Swallows nesting in a box over one of the porch doors for years (I suspect ownership is largely hereditary). My wife (and now I) refer to them as "The Misters". This was taken on a cloudy morning with the sun a bit behind and to the right of the subject and a distant fir tree as background.

7D, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, Jobu Gimbal on RRS legs, 1/1000 @ f/8, iso 640, Av mode, -1/3 stop compensation. Processed in LR5 & CS6. Cropped to 11MP of the original 18. Taken April 6th at 9:44 am. I'm not sure about the comp. I could have placed the bird on either the left or right side of the frame with the canvas available.

Your comments and criticisms are always appreciated.

Thanks for looking,

Details in the bird is outstanding -- the bird is looking to the right where most of the canvas is -- might try taking just a bit off the left just to see what that would look like

Hi Dennis,

Wonderful lighting and excellent camera work enabled you to capture the subtle details and color of the feathers :toast: .....Jim

Beautiful capture. The soft light works well and I think the comp works well. A slightly greater head turn might have been better, but really nice as it is. Dave

Ah, ha Dennis, you have certainly got me intrigued for sure.. A beautiful photo of this handsome fellow, great details, a perfect head turn. I would certainly enjoy some quality time with the Misters.

Sweet One

The swallow is excellent - good position, nice details and exposure. The clipped branch ends don't help the image any.

The details in the bird are great, especially in the white feathers thanks to the soft light. I like the comp. as presented, but given the look back might also try moving it bit more to the left to see what it feels like.

Superb detail in this Swallow Dennis. The composition works really well. I do agree with Richard, in a perfect world I would prefer the clipped branches were not there, but a beautiful image of this swallow.
