Purple-faced Langur

One very early morning in Sri Lanka we were on our way to the Horton Plains NP when our guide noticed a group of Purple-faced Langurs. These beautiful monkeys are endemic for this Island. They live mostly high in the mountains, so their fur is comfortably thick.

I can't say I've ever seen photos of this species. A nice view of a cool (and cute) monkey. Really nice light in the eyes. Good crop choice too.

Hi Ellen,

Like Max, I've not seen a photo of one of these before. Cool shot - and you definitely handled the challenge of dealing with that long tail well. My only nits on this one pertains to things totally out of your control - specifically those bright zones in the background that tug a little on the eye - but you handled them as well as possible! Well done.

Cheers and thanks for sharing this one!

Very cool looking monkey. That's a major tail he's got. The bright spots in the BG at the bottom distract a little but if you cropped them out of the picture you would loose the tail. Just one of the compromises you sometimes have to make in wildlife photography where your subject often doesn't cooperate. Nice job.
