Beach Bird

My wife and I went for a walk this afternoon along the ocean to a natural breach which opened up during Hurricane Sandy. The area is part of the National Seashore and as such there is no development and no vehicles are allowed in the area - though since the breach opened up there has been an increase in people taking the walk down. We were really looking for fox that had been reported - but always keeping an eye out for Owls (particularly this winter). As I was searching the dunes my wife exclaimed she had found one (she has found all of them this season for me) and we proceeded to enjoy some nice photography/views of another one of these beautiful birds.

Nikon D7100 300mm f4 + 1.7X TC HH lying down in sand
f/6.7
1/1000s
ISO 800
Cropped Mode

Full Frame, minor adjustments in LR5 and CS5

I like the way the shapes of the dunes work with the owl and the winter beach palette in this image, Luke.

Sweet natural habitat here, and a great owl. Glad you guys found him again!
Nice to be able to say "my wife", huh? :-)

The setting is absolutely magic - you did right in not effecting a closer crop. The composition and color balance convey to the full, the prevailing weather conditions. Well done , Luke.

Terrific composition affording a great sense of the habitat they seek. Wonderful to be seeing so many of them here in the Northeast. Nice work Luke.
