For some reason I've seen far less of this species in recent years, not sure why. Anyway, this is my most recent catch.
F/8, 1/200th, ISO 500, 1D M3, 300mm f/2.8 + Kenko 2x ext & natural light.

Excellent. Typically an abundant species in AZ in winter I am seeing far fewer this winter.

Very nice detail on this sparrow and nice background -- but -- I'm puzzled -- I would think that f8 would carry sharpness to the tail -- if f8 would not catch focus to the tail -- what f-stop would?

Sweet White-crowned, Howard. I like the pose and that's a nice diagonal perch. This bird is my totem of spring up here-can't wait to hear the first song!

I too am surprised that f8 didn't allow for both legs to be in focus. Nice shot regardless. Very nice background.

Nice view of this fellow - good pose, nice branch, fine detail. You might consider toning down the bright almost-blown white on the crown.

Thanx everyone.
Scott & Jerry; F/8 using the 2x ext. is not the typical F/8
With enough light for example, I would use F/10 to get the equivalent DOF of F/8.
Also depends greatly on how close the subject is, and this one was very close

Wonderful close up shot with nice detail in the larger version. Nice job in getting this as these sparrows do not stay still for very long in my area, well done.

Saw lots of these in NM! Nice and sharp where it counts. I like the perch coming out of the corner. Sharon
