America's Best Idea

A drive through Yellowstone National Park should be on every American's bucket list. With roads traversing through prime wildlife habitat and some of the most scenic vistas in the lower 48, it is no wonder Yellowstone is one of the most heavily visited parks in the entire National Park System. Expect to pass through everything from high alpine country, dotted with wildflowers, to soaring stands of mighty evergreen forests. A variety of steaming thermal features, gigantic rocky spires rising from deep river canyons, emerald valleys dotted with sparkling cobalt lakes, views of majestic peaks, and wildlife abound should be enough to hold one's interest for a lifetime..

I made this image in the Lamar Valley at sunset. The Bison was a very cooperative model and helped to provide a nice sense of scale in the grand scene that stretched out before me.

Very cool image, Zack. Great execution. My only suggestion might be to bring down the highlights in the background above the bison slightly. I love the image.

Zack, I like how you have captured so many elements (bison, road, mountains, forest, grass, etc.) and brought them together to make a picture that works well and has a nice glow.

Love the perspective and the lighting, Zach - this would be nice even without the bison, but your model makes the image a bit special.

Zack,

This is outstanding! This belongs in some National Park literature, brochures, websites, etc. Hopefully you can market this one, it would sell!

No nits at all, awesome image.

An excellent image Zach. I am just wondering if having tar roads running through prime wildlife habitat is really such a good idea?

Great use of the road in this shot. The lighting is just about perfect. A billboard for Yellowstone in the future for this? I'm wondering if you had a shot of the big boy crossing the road? Like your website - is it new or just new to me? Very sharp. Just read John's comment - I agree :toast:

Fantastic image, Zack. Even without the bison, this would have been really nice. The bison takes it over the top. Excellent. Congratulations on the weekly pick.

Hi Zack,
This is stunning! I love the mountains in the background. It appears that the bison blinked for this image. Do you have another image with its eyes open? Amazing work!

Thanks everyone!

Greg, hard to tell at this small size, but the Bison's eyes are in fact open. Funny that you say that because I did have another frame where he was blinking.
