Fall - Shape and Color

A backyard mix of Japanese Fern with a leaf from the Japanese Maple.

Zeiss 35mm with polarizer and Nikon d800e, single exposure

ps....late comment: leaf was both hand selected and carefully placed atop the fern into what I hoped would achieve a balanced and eye-pleasing composition.

A surprise, delight, and honor to have this photo chosen for POTM! Thanks for the encouraging comments and the selection.

Love the frame filling rich color, texture, detail and pattern of the beautiful Japanese fern, Ken. The red maple leaf is eye catching, is a point of interest, and helps bring out the subtle color in the fern. A very attractive image overall. I will add, however, that, to me, the leaf also feels a bit, well, placed or unnatural. (Don't know if that's the case or not.) I may like this one just as well or better w/o the leaf, but that's just me. It's a beautiful image with or without the leaf.

Ken - Staged or not, it resonates very well with me. The Japanese Maple Leaf stands out so nicely from all the slightly muted greens and other colors in the ferns.

This is a beautiful image, Ken; the type that would look at home on a living room wall. The golden glow in the lower-left hand corner of the maple leaf adds appealing contrast.
