Welcome to the Big Room

A self portrait taken in a remote canyon on the Colorado Plateau.
I thought this place needed a sense of scale. Any suggestions appreciated!

Canon 5DII w/ 24-105 lens @ 24mm
1/4 sec. & 1 sec. @ f16
2 exposures blended for optimum dynamic range.

Tip o' the hat to Neil Young & the Bluenotes for the title.

*Larger is better.*

What a fantastic shot :toast: :toast: :toast: I love this. It just wouldn't have been the same without the man....especially with his hat and walking stick. :jump:

No suggestions, except that you don't need suggestions. Well one, anyway—I wish it was me standing there! :toast:

This should have been the poster for 127 hours. Or at least some sort of movie or book cover, everything about it is just perfect. The sense of scale is great, but it's the placement of yourself and the sense of adventure that makes this stand out very well. Just a spectacular image all the way John.

Killer photo, John! The double exposure worked perfectly for capturing the fantastic detail in the shadows without overexposing those beautiful sunlit highlights. What impresses me even more is that you had to not only get into pose very quickly but also hold very, very still to look so crisp in such a long exposure! An amazing shot indeed :toast:

That is such a cool picture! The light is amazing and even without you it would have been great. I only had one suggestion, but Phil beat me to it.....

That's an awesome glow with terrific texture and just enough light around the edges. Your scale factor works well, with the hat, stick and camera hanging from the waist. Great planning job with getting yourself to just the right place.

Holley smokes, this has got it! It all comes together in this work of art/adventure photo.
Indeed, this captivates the explorer’s imagination. This photo needs to be hung in ranger stations, BLM headquarters and welcome centers throughout the region.

M&N photo of the year?
A+

The scale given by you is a great feature! Looks like it should be a cover for some magazine! My only suggestion might be to selectively reduce the yellow cast created by the reflected light on your back to make you stand out more from the background. A little more blue or cyan, as shadows are normally in this range. Very dramatic, and a new view / casnyon for me. :toast:

Good NIGHT Amigo, what a crazy amazing image! Without you in it, it might be hard to grasp perspective of size and placed (like Mesa Arch, way bigger than it looks in a photograph). This is the best selfie I've seen yet. Congrats!! :toast:

John,

An honor well deserved on this photo. Excellent imagination and execution both in the taking and processing
Rare is the time I would like to hang another photographer's work on my wall....this is one of them!
This one deserves a place on a National Geo!

Congrats on a well deserved EP! :toast:
