Moon In Blue
by Youssef Ismail
Thanks for the comments on the last two photos. They were made on the evening of the new moon. The moon was however not visible due to its age past conjunction and lag time behind the sun, both were to short.
The next night however the moon was much larger and much easier to see. But as the day wore on, these clouds started to build in the west and the hopes of seeing the moon started to wane. I arrived at my location just as the sun was setting and the clouds pretty much obscured the actual setting. As time progressed I saw the crescent but the clouds quickly covered it. I waited a bit more hoping it would reappear. The sun, now under the cloud deck ignited the clouds from underneath. I made some interesting cloud photos and then with the last light of the sun hitting the clouds the moon broke through an opening. I made some quick exposures, in about 5 minutes the clouds covered it up again.
The blue tones from the clouds and sky coupled with the fading magenta from the setting sun gave a color combination that I rarely see with the moon at sunset. So its not one of the thinnest moons, but the clouds and color gave me a unique combination.
So here it is.
