Welcome to the Flora gallery, Bill! Good start with a clear full image of the flower with good detail in the middle of the blossom. Consider possibly cropping out the spent blossoms (probably a square crop). An oblique shot rather than head on would give you focus on the front and center of the flower. If you shot this hand held, consider purchasing a tripod. The image is soft throughout, even in the zone of focus, indicating camera movement.

What is your program for post processing? Have you tried shooting RAW (NEF file in Nikon parlance)?

I look forward to further posts from you! Feel free to jump in with comments as well. When I first started, I was reluctant to post opinion, as I felt everyone knew more than I did. Don't let that stop you! Jump in, and your comments and critiques will get better as you improve.

Thanks for the comments Phil! I considered the square crop, but came back to this one. For some strange reason, I just like it better. I honestly do not remember whether I used the tripod or not.

I do probably 90% in Lightroom and jump over to Photoshop as needed. I switched over to RAW a couple of years ago.
