Fast food on the fly. I spent a couple of mornings at Seabeck on Hood Canal last weekend. While this action was further away than I liked and required quite a significant crop, I'm pleased with the results. Also, we had sun on Saturday and this was taken fairly late in the morning (dawn is around 5:15), so I had to do some recovery on the sunlit side of the head.

1Div, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, Black Widow on RRS legs (I know Nate said to shoot hand held), f6.3, 1/1250, iso 320 manual exposure. Processed in ACR and CS6 with some detail brought out using the Topaz Detail software. Cropped to 4.9MP. Taken Saturday, June 22nd at 7:44 am.

Your comments and criticisms are most appreciated.

Thanks for looking,

Dennis,
Love the shot. Great action! The photo tells the entire story, except for the fish species. Well done. :toast:

Spectacular action shot perfectly timed. Difficult lighting situation, but well handled. That sunlight adds so much to the water splash when all the droplets sparkle.

Well done Dennis. " things make the shot for me 1> the great head on view of the eagle and 2> the sunlit water splash in it's wake. There is a real sense of action here.
Considering the different elements I think you've handled the exposure really well.
I'd be interested to know if you cropped vertically or horizontally. Was keeping in a bit more of the bird's reflection an option?

Very nice Dennis, love the splash, and even at 1/1250th the slight blur at the wing tips adds to the sense of speed!

Actually, I first cropped it with as much reflection as I had (see repost), then decided it would have more impact with the eagle larger in the frame. Printed, it might be different.

Apparently,I was shooting right next to you Dennis. I have a very similar shot from Saturday morning also. I re-call 4 other photographers in the same area, wish I would have known one of them was you. Great action shot!!! I really like the determined face expression on this eagle. That splash is great too. I like both versions, but for me the first version has the edge.

Sweet One!!!

Dennis, The first version in definitely more 'in your face' but I do like the re-post, it adds a bit more depth and gives a better sense of environment. :toast:

Stunning. Having shot bald eagles I appreciate how hard it is to get this. Thanks for sharing.

Dennis...I like the second post of this one better. For me the portrait crop works better for the subject. Awesome moment captured! Sharon
