This is a shot taken on a recent trip to the Peruvian Highlands.
While everyone else was complaining about the overcast weather I was loving it!

D7000, Nikon 18-105 VR (travel lens) @ 105mm
1/500th, F 18 ISO 160

Please critique
Thanks
Iain

Very nice sky and dappled light on the mountains Iain. Nice depth to the image also. By the way welcome to the landscape forum.

Iain,

I'm with you - when the weather or light isn't cooperating (for most) there is ALWAYS opportunities and options for making image, as you've shown here. The shadow/light play in and around the mountain as well as the dramatic cloud cover makes for a great image. My nit/suggestion is going to be around the immediate foreground. It certainly looks interesting geologically, but I'm afraid too dark to really make much out of it. the midground in the landscape is a bit dark as well, but that's ok, since the story is about the light and drama in the far distance. If it were mine, I might crop out the immediate foreground since I don't think it's adding anything (it would add depth if not so dark.) This might even make a nice b&w.

Thanks for posting and indeed, welcome to the Landscape gallery.

That's a gorgeous sky Iain. Love the dappled light on the mountains. I agree with Lon on the darkness of the foreground but instead of cropping I might try to bring the mid tones up. You might want to try both and see which works best for you.

Thanks for your comments - I agree the foreground is too dark, which is unfortunate because it had some interesting structure which was lost when I lowered the exposure to capture the distant highlights. I think it deserves some further work however. Thanks again!

Terrific sky, love the drama of the shadow play on the hills as well. a little dark in the fg as others have pointed out--certainly worth playing with a little more.

Gorgeous light on the distant peaks! Since the foreground is part of the comp and there's some tantalizing hints of what might be there, I'd like to see that part better. If it's the mood you're after, I might suggest cropping away some of the fg to capitalize on the mountain view and the those great looking lumpy, mixed up clouds.

Wow - thank you all so much for your comments - I;m trying to re-post a worked-on image with the foreground enhanced. I may have over-done it, but I'm curious to see what you think. The foreground is important because it contains little cairns that are assembled by the locals as a prayer to the mountains for their protection.
Thanks again - Iain
