Shorescape 2

Arriving at the Arches Provincial Park, on the western shore of Newfoundland's Northern Peninsula, far to early, I decided I'd wait for the sun to move to a more favourable position. After more than three hours, it seemed to me the sun hadn't moved even the tiniest little bit. :frown:

I contented myself taking photographs as opportunities presented themselves, capturing this one when the sun broke through some heavy clouds.

Conversion to black and white seemed to capture the mood of the moment best.

This is a wonderful composition, no doubt ultra-wide angle, and very well executed. One aspect is that the mind has a bit of a problem judging the scale of the pebbles (or boulders?) in the foreground. The size of the surrounding suggests pebbles, but in juxtaposition with the water and longer distance, they look like huge boulders. This is a GREAT obstacle illusion.

And I think there is a lot of existential meaning in the rest; Why are these pebbles the shape they are? Maybe it has something to do with the interaction between the clouds / sun and the waters washing upon them over very, very long periods of time.

Well conceived and well executed; this was worth the wait (not just for your photograph).

Stan, I'm really enjoying this scene and your b&w conversion really helped capture the mood here. I like the depth in this scene with the foreground rocks and the reflection leading me all the way to the horizon and then the clouds bringing me back out as my eyes travel to the top. Well done and you made excellent use of your time while waiting...

The sky adds a lot of drama to the scene. Also B&W works well for this image.

Real nice B&W, Stan. I like the range of tones in this scene and the drama in the sky is very striking. Looks like your alternate plan worked out beautifully.

Stan,

I'm really loving the foreground rocks and especially the light, which comes across surprisingly well with the conversion. Well seen, captured and processed. No nits really, although if it were mine, I might consider cloning or cropping out the dark rock near the left edge. Not a big deal, but a bit of an eye magnet pulling away from the wonderful polished and rounded stones.

This image reminds me of the beach in White Rock British Columbia. I thought like, I know this place!!! Quickly I checked the location. 1000s of kilometers distance but still in Canada. :jump:

I like the weathered rocks and thick cloudy sky, and the little light coming through the clouds reflecting the mood.
I agree with Lon, I would crop it out. However it is a great image as it is.

Appreciate the view, and comment, Mohammad.

In subsequent versions, I cloned out the rock in the mid left.

As always, Lon was correct.
