A Winter Sunrise

This is a picture I made in February a few weeks back now. It was at Bakkens Pond on a foggy morning at sunrise. I enjoyed the combination of elements on this morning with water, ice, fog and clouds. It was a fun time trying to make a couple of images on this wonderful winter morning. This may be one of those images that means more to the photographer from being there than it does to others, I'm really not sure. Thanks for all of your comments on my last post too!

This is nice, Nick. You captured a wonderful mood with the morning fog and the combination of warm and cool colors. I really like those reflections in the open part of the water. :toast:

I like the simplicity and subdued color Nick. I am a big fan of beatiful, quiet images like this.

Nick, I do enjoy the subtlety of your image, and the refelction balances the warming light in the sky in a most appealing way for me. You convey the atmosphere of this serene winter morning immediately to me.

I can relate to it! I like "less is more shots". The layering works well, there is enough structure too keep the interest.

Cannot add too much more about the mood and calm feeling going on with this scene, Nick. Beyond those comments I find the overall cloud structure well defined and a major part of the image here too. Very nice indeed.

Yeah, im a bit on the fence with this one. It's eye-catchin, i like the subtle sky details. The blue feels a bit heavy/murky to me, especially on the horizon where i can almost detect a bit of noise. I wonder how it would look warmed up with the blues more neutral. On the one hand, it would ruin the warm-cool contrast, but i think it might add to the mood, and this is obvioulsy a mood shot since there's no strong focus. I always apply the 'burrito test' to these types of photos--would i be more likely to buy a burrito or this photo? In this case, i think the burrito has a a slight edge. Fortunately, by sharing it here, you've given me the best of both worlds.

Thank you for your thoughts on this! I like the look and mood but just wasn't sure if this would appeal to others. It probably won't be a gallery print for me but I will keep it around for awhile and remember the morning.
Stan, As always I appreciate your honest thoughts on this and can understand them. Maybe we could get a couple of burritos and sit back and look at it for awhile... Thanks, Nick

When less is more...we all walk in the quiescent radiance of this image. The twinkle of lights in the water sparkle with joy.
