hi all,
since this year is slowly coming to an end i thought it's about time to say thanks.. thank you all for posting so many great images and comments! there's so much inspiration to be found here, and i very much appreciate every kind of feedback!
it has been a great year for me and i've seen so many beautiful places. it was still quite easy for me to choose MY photo moment of 2012..
this image was taken in september on the famous beach at jökulsárlón in iceland. ...what an unforgettable night!
the image is a blend of 2 exposures to achieve acceptable focus at f2.8. due to popular demand i'm including a larger version.
you can read more about the image and the technique on my blog.
Beach near Jökulsárlón, Iceland
Canon 5DMKII, Nikon 14-24 @ 14mm

No point in me joining the choir of 'this is super awesome...' , cause it is pretty awesome. Instead, I'll give you my honest critique:
I think the subject here is terrific, a great idea to mix the ice up front with the aurora in back (like chocolate and peanut butter...) but my gut tells me it's too forced--in a sense it's too 'perfect'. You've taken what is probably a fairly original idea (combining two extremely popular--and en vogue--subjects) and presented it in a very classical or 'safe' way. Everything neatly lined up and balanced. I would suggest that while this is a great photo, it could have been a photo-of-the-year if you had somehow managed to present the same subjects in a more natural, less-strained way. How to do that? If i had the answer, I'd be off charging customers $5,000 a head to teach them
Phenomenal image of nature at her finest and most amazing. Not much else to say and no suggestions really.
A sight I would love to see one day.
Lon
