I was driving off Dolly Sods after shooting a sunrise in the Bear Rocks area when I noticed the reflections on Red Creek and this photo is one of the results. Dolly Sods is located in the Canaan Valley of West Virginia. Shot with a Canon 5D mark III with 17-40 lens using a tripod. All comments welcomed and appreciated. Chet Large view included.

I like the water flow and golden reflection in the water. Other than that, Not a lot to hold the eye.

Welcome to the NPN Landscape gallery, Chet! A cool looking picture too. I agree the flow of the water and the reflection here is very nice. I always love that golden glow! I might wish for a little more detail in the dark shadow area around the rocks in the foreground area. I would also like to see a little more room at the top (just feels a bit tight there) but maybe something was there keeping you from showing a little more. Anyways I think this is a pretty scene with some nice light....

Hi Chet, I like the flow of water and your selected shutter speed. I love the golden water in the BG. I am thinking a larger crop on the right, from the edge of the left edge of the large rock and everything to the right would strengthen the image. I may also open up the rocks a bit on the left. Thank for sharing!

Thanks Nick I appreciate your suggestions. In fact there was an area of very harsh light at the top. Anyway I'm glad to be aboard and am looking forward to good and fruitful time here. Chet

First off welcome to the landscape forum, Chet. I like the diagonal comp here along with the interplay of warm and cool colors in the creek. I'll second Nick and Nick's suggestions as to cropping and opening up a bit of shadow detail. I hope to see some more posts in the future.

Chet,

Welcome to NPN and the Landscape gallery! Terrific first post. I really like the combo of warm and cool colors and the texture and flow in the water is quite nice. To me, I find the gold/yellow up top to be a little bright/strong pulling my eye up - and sticking. Not sure what you could do short of burning it down a little, but that might change the dynamics of the image, not sure. It also seems tight up top, but I highly suspect there were some objects you want/need to exclude from the frame and this is probably the best option you had. The more subdued golds in the middle right are wonderful. Fairly high in contrast (deep shadows) but I think this comes across quite beautifully.

Welcome aboard. We look forward to your images and participation in the forums and galleries.
