I'm thinking this is a viable flora forum post, but I could be wrong. Anyway, I was at Morton Aboretum with a camera buddy of mine before the monthly meeting of MAPS, the Morton Aboretum Photographic Society, and we were walking around in the Children's Garden taking snapshots and he took one of this area so I did too.

Pentax K-5 (comparable to a D7000 if you're not familiar with Pentax), Tamron 90 mm f/2.8 macro at f/4.5 for the bokeh effect on the weeds, sorry, grasses in the background, ISO 100, and 1/200s since there was a very faint breeze as I recall.

Comments welcome; Should this have been posted to the Photo Art forum?

John ...I know your equipment very well. One of my camera buddies has the same. I like this image and the placement of a photocopy of the plant in the out of focus. Am not a black and white person ...but may be a conversion to BW can be tried too ..

I really appreciate the comment, especially having seen your work, Balan Vinod. But with respect to the B&W,, I did think about that. But I concluded that the hint of color would be like an aftertaste, sort of,. That one would view it in B&W essentially and then as an aftertaste see the color. So I thought I'd leave it.

My point being, that it was a concious decision.

Thanks so much for your comment. :toast:

I am not fluent in HTML, by the way LOL :wavey: :toast:

Good comp, and good control and use of the light, John. I like the way the light picked up the details in the ornamental grass against the dark bg.

Thanks vor your comment, Scott Lanz, with the caveat that you are a moderator in the Macro Gallery, whereas this image was posted in the Flora Gallery.

This is not to say your views and opinions are not valued in this gallery, a gallery of which you are not a moerator, I must say. It is just to remove any ambiguity in the minds of possible viewers as to which gallery this images was posted in: It was posted in the Flora Gallery, ok?

Thant being said, I thank you for your comments and suggestions, scott lanz, Macro Gallery Moderator.
And, by the way, I absolutely LOVE the pun in your url... www.lanzscape.com. I will definitely check it out on that basis alone.

take care, dude

John, the image is very appropriate in this gallery. It is where I would have posted it.

John: The lighting here makes the shot and I also like your plane of focus management. I'm ambivalent about the oof elements below and left of the main subject. I kind of wish they weren't there but they do add some environmental context that I'm OK with. As for posting guidelines for Flora, our motto here is "if it grows, it goes." About the only time I'll move a shot to photo art is if there has been some major digital alterations that radically changes the nature of the subject. I've very much enjoyed your work and especially enjoy your comments. Thanks for your contributions. >=))>
