As Darkness Falls
by Colin H Sillerud
An epic spot I found on the Grand Canyon. The road was about gone so I imagine it's been years since anyone has visited. However, to break the peace, helicopters provided reminders of man every 15 minutes. I made it a point to pretend to go to the bathroom for every flight.
I shot the foreground 20 min prior to the sky because it was too windy to do a ~4 min exposure at f9 when the Milky Way was out.
Also, the sky is blue rather than black because this was literally the first moment that the Milky Way was visible. So a hint of the setting sun remains to color the dust in the air.

Coincidentally, the music i mention in my post below is being recorded at a studio in Beulah--i bet you know who is engineering it.

Steve knows i do photography, so he showed me your calendar, and i remembered your name from NPN.
Thanks for your comments everyone. I would upload a larger one, but they limit me to 300kb. Is there a way around that?
Excellent night image and of course the Milky Way. Great job framing and also I think the shadow/detail is appropriate for the time of day, so a little dark is a-ok here.
Hard to me to critique the color since I wasn't there, but I'm leaning towards agreeing with Marsel. The reason I say that is not necessarily due to the sky, but the very far mountain ridge is quite blue as well. A little clue about too much blue - hey, it rhymes. Of course, it's all personal choice and honestly it's not detrimental, more of an observation.
Oh, also wanted to mention that even though the horizon splits the frame (50/50,) this still looks and feels like a very nicely balanced image and a great example of how rules (50/50) just don't always apply.
Lastly, the river and reflection of color really to this one off.
