Woodruff and shamrock

I had gone into this anonymous patch of woodland in western Switzerland to photograph trees but they weren't being very co-operative so I looked down and saw this…

I haven't been around for a while so there's a bit of catching up to do. This one's from May…

Love the composition, but the glare on the leaves is a bit distracting. I think I would have tried this with a polarizer.

Thanks, Youssef.

Well, the 'glare' on the leaves was quite deliberate and something I tried to bring out in the post-processing. It adds a bit of depth, I feel. Just goes to show you can't please everyone.

Hi Julian

Personally I love this for the very reason that Youssef isn't so keen on it. I reckon the texture is beautifully revealed and the whole image looks tactile. The only thing I find minutely distracting is the three or four pin pricks of light which I assume are out of focus highlights of water droplets hanging from leaves above the white flower and that tiny bit of grey debris atop the lowest leaf which I just want to blow off.

A smorgasbord of leaf shape and color. Very nice

Your focus selection is perfect for me. I like the slightly softer background. Difficult to pull off such a green image, but the lighting places the attention where it is needed. May be a B&W conversion would be worth trying too.

Beautiful image with wonderful vibrant greens. I like the way that you have composed the foliage and the rhythm of the different types of leaves throughout the frame.

Julian, I really like the composition and overall image as is, but might try working some of the highlights down just very slightly to see how things look. Maybe try TK's masks on the bright areas of the leaves. The Porta has provided some really nice greens here, nice to see that from the 400 version.

Interesting views above on the brighter areas on the leaves. I fall on the side of a bit less glare. This scene has a softness to it with the deep greens that the brighter areas seem to distract from. Otherwise, a lovely little "greenscape."

John,

Lovely image. I particularly like the dof here - just the right amount to let the far bg go just soft enough to help separate the main stalks and flowers up front, which was your focus. I don't mind so much the glare and can see wanting to emphasize that. Personally though, I would drop the highest values a tad - a great candidate for TK's Lights Triple Play I think. Minor, but I would consider also burning down the URC. Other than that, I'm really enjoying this one. Glad you posted it.
