Peek a Moose

This is from a trip through far Northern BC a few years back. This young lovesick bull moose was in pursuit of a cow with a calf. He sang a lovely song, a lot, showed off by blowing bubbles in a pond and made an ardent attempt at impressing the lady moose. We watched from a distance while they moved past at a leisurely stroll, bathing and grazing along the way.

Canon Rebel XT, f5.6, 1/250 sec., iso 320, 400 mm (100-400 lens) Handheld.

Very cool photo Ed. Don't think autofocus was going to help much in getting the moose sharp with all the vegetation. Just enough of the moose showing to work for me. Nice autumn color in the willows. I like the vertical format.

Love the photo Ed! The one eye through the bushes is great! Exposure and comp are both really nice too. No nits from me- nice shot!

Hey Ed,

I really like this one - breaks a lot of rules and yet it works well for me. I like the composition, the positioning of the subject in the frame, how the yellow foreground leaves contrast some with the slightly more orange background leaves, and - of course - that eye peering through/between the branches. My only wish here - and I'm sure it wasn't possible in the field - would be a little more depth of field to slightly sharpen up the branches in front of the moose.

Thanks for sharing this one...great capture of a very unique moment in time...cheers...
