Dear Bird,
If you take up residence in my pond, I get to name you. Apologies, but that's the way it works.

August 2012
Great Blue Heron, now living in my backyard.
Totally fine with three German Shepherds who chase him out of the pond for a swim every afternoon; he comes right back.
And what the heck is Sherman eating, there are no fish in my pond. Frogs?
Canon 7D

ISO 250

Wow, you really had to travel far to get this shot!

Looks like you had some nice light on the subject. I like how you composed the bird on the right side of the frame so that it looks into the photo.
Good details and head angle. Very well done.

Who knows what "sherman" is eating, but I'm glad it found a place to hang out.
Thanks for sharing.

He's a pretty healthy looking heron, he must finding something good to eat around your pond. The green surroundings really compliment the young birds plumage, a pleasing composition.

Sweet Photo Rebecka!!!

Nice, Rebecka. I like the nice detail in the bird and the contrast with the foliage makes it pop very well. I like the composition. They'll eat frogs, if available. They'll also eat small mammals, like voles.

Nice light; good background. It's always surprising to see these ungainly birds perched in trees and shrubs.

Wonderful all around detail and it is interesting to see a GBH up in a tree as I am use to seeing images of them in water. Excellent shot and composition, well done.

Lovely comp and setting Rebecca. Even though the background is quite obvious the bird stands out nicely

Nice shot of this juvenile. Being young they are often more tolerant of people and pets.
