This morning in Jean Lafitte NP I found several of these in one area, but this is the only one I could get in decent light and BG. Full frame, larger image included.

Outstanding, particularly the sharp details visible in the larger image, over the entire area. Any ID on the species?

Looks great, with those reds and yellows in front of the smooth green background. I think I'd try a centered composition here by cropping some from the bottom and the right side.

Thanks for thcomments. David, this is a golden silk spider (Nephila clavipes), which are among the largest species, and are common in the Southeast. An adult female, like this one, is about 1 1/4" inch long without legs. As posed this one is a bit less than three inches overall.
