Somewhere Near Eads
by Stan Rose
It's been a stormy June in Colorado, so in between gulping down percocet to combat the pain of recent surgery, ive been hitting the road looking for more storms to photo. Next week looks interesting a bit farther north, up Nick and Nancy's way. Anyhow, once it became obvious the tornado threat had fallen to zero Thursday afternoon, i drove back from W KS through Kiowa County (middle-o-nowhere, CO) and pulled off on this dirt road to take a few shots of the departing storms to the east. I took a lot of magenta out of this, otherwise the colors are totally untouched here.

I think you could take a fourth off of the top and it would be even stronger. It "elevates" the thunderhead to more prominence, and even brings out the "towers" underneath.

edit: just saw Morris's crop suggestion
I'm not sure about the crop suggestion, although now it's kind of centered.
best,

spiritual quality about it for me.
This is just frickin' awesome - or if I were 30 yrs younger... just sick. ;-) And you'll be happy to know Stan that I'm not going to dog you about color. This looks like I think it would had I been there and now provides and example of what I was wishing Morris' images looked like. Morris, if you read this I hope it makes sense. But really super job pulling out the magenta, no color fringing, etc. It's intense for sure, but very believable to me.
Not my image, but my vote is for no additional cropping. Yeah, perhaps consider cloning some of that darker cloud in the URC, but I think the sense of space and scale for that matter is really enhanced by the extra room up top. JMHO.
Love it.

Amazing what goes on in the skies above us.
I could go without all the stuff on the borders though, and just have the cloud that's lit up in the scene. Crop the rest.
