This photo was taken in Grand Teton National park with my canon 7D and my 70-299 telephoto lens with an extender. There was nothing done to enhance the photo

Nancy, nice shot of the young moose. Good exposure, you have kept detail in the mooses coat, something hard to do sometimes. I would suggest a vertical crop of this image which would eliminate some of the extra space on either side.
thanks for sharing.

Hey Nancy,

Capturing a moose (or any other member of the deer family) when in velvet is always fun. I'm in agreement with John's comment above on going with a vertical crop.

Cheers...

Brad

PS: Please don't hesitate to jump in and comment on the images of others - I know the recommended ratio of 5 comments for every image post can be tough to maintain, but getting a little closer to this comment:image ratio would be appreciated. I know many newer members are a little hesitant to leave comments, but ultimately the success of all the galleries are determined largely by the comments members leave on the images that are posted. And, I'm sure you'll find that once you get into the regular practice of creating your own critiques that you'll think more about, and improve, your own photography.

If you're unsure or uneasy about commenting/"critiquing" there are several good resources on this website discussing it. Start right here:

http://www.naturephotographers.net/postguide-2.html

This page discusses the critiquing process and provides links to a number of articles on critiquing ("The Art of Image Critique" and "More Thoughts on Photo Critique.").

I like this 3/4 profile of the moose's head. You got a catch light in the eye as well, nice. The moose is a bit too centered in the frame for my tastes, some folks prefer it this way I know. If you positioned yourself a little bit to the left you might have avoided and/or blocked the trees that seem to come out of the head/back. This park has a great reputation for moose it seems.
