Lupine Sunset

Thanks to those of you who gave sound advice on my last post, it was much appreciated.

Last lupine shot from this area for me. Taken shortly after the white lupine one. Wanted a more horizontal image for my portfolio so I scurried up the hill to another decent bloom. Had to crop the left a bit as my bloody tripod leg was in the shot, hence the 4x5 crop ratio. Have to watch that more carefully when it gets darker on these super close, low to ground DOF blends.

Any technical or artistic advice is noted and usually taken.

5 images for DOF, 1 for the sky. Larger image included.

Cheers!

Very nice Nicolaus. Excellent composition and the FG lupines seem to sparkle with that beautiful backlight. Well done.

Beautiful! Great light and colors. Your large version here is fantastic, and well worth the look! :toast:

Really awesome. The light through the lupines is amazing as is the sunstar.

Terrific light on the lupine blooms. Really brings out the colors. the sunstar seems to almost kiss the top of the fg blooms, Beautiful.

Another nice take from here, Nic, I really like the offset placement of the lupines and the sunstar. I'll be out your way next month, if everything goes as planned I'll be staying in Bozeman, MT for a little while. Hopefully the wildflower displays will be just as nice in late June

The comp is awesome--love the leading lines and depth/near-far. Color looks good. IMO, this is begging for more DR--i want to see some rich blacks in the shadows and they aint there. Id take the left half of the histogram and drag it down, down, down

Thanks for the feedback.

Zack, it depends on the elevation and location really. Not sure about MT, but I'd say stuff will be blooming between 8-9K during that time here in WY. The lower elevation blooms will probably be gone or on their way out by then. Early bloom this year it seems so some areas may be completely gone by then. You've always got the mountains though. ;]

Stan, I think on print this would probably end up fairly dark in the shadows, but via web presentation I see what you are referring to. Thanks for the suggestion.
