Mourning Dove (Zenaida macroura)

A rework of an image I posted in Avian seven years ago. Taken with my first digital camera, when it was about 5 months old. I brought it back for the weekly challenge and to illustrate the moire problem on the wing as discussed on my blog.

Honest critiques requested; all comments appreciated.

Great photo for this theme, Richard! I like your DOF choice with the dove in nice focus against a nicely blurred background. Interesting capture of this dove with an open beak. I hadn't been aware of moire before so it was informative to read your discussion on your blog.

The creamy background sets the dove off nicely. The bird looks like it's panting from the heat. While the banding may be Moire, if you were using a polarizer, the color banding can also be created by interference in the polarizer due to the slightly different distances from the camera to the wing tips.

Besides the colored moire, it also looks like there are non-colored moire patterns shown by the banded lines on the feathers.
With this image for personal preference, I would like more dof for the rock peak in front of the bird, but I see that you are already at f/9.

Very cute image. Well seen and captured. The central placing of the bird works well. Nice presentation.
