Non-color Color

Gallery: Weekly ChallengePosted May 7, 201277 views4 comments
Experimenting with Nikon's NX2 with the re-addition of original color to a monochrome from color photo.
I think that fits into the challenge.
Anyway, some startling effects come into play. This is probably not one of my best; I don't really like the extreme sun flare. I will work up some others if this is allowed within the parameters of this weekly challenge.
See what you think.
Nikon d700
Nikkor 14-24
Heavily processed but still not real professional.

Interesting processing idea, Larry. Not real sure if the color added photo still meets the challenge or not; parts of the picture still feel monochromatic but that sky, while beautiful, is quite colorful! Perhaps just a slight hint of the sky colors would help this better qualify for the challenge. However. . .by definition monochromatic is varying shades of one color so not sure if that would still work. Anyway, it's an interesting idea and seems like it would be fun to play with.

Carolyn, should I delete this and try the same process with less color?

Larry, I don't think you need to delete this; it's interesting to see the results of your processing! However, monochromatic is shades of one color rather than a little bit of various colors. Maybe that would be a suggestion for a new theme--"B&W photo with just a subtle hint of colors". However, if you wish to post another photo with more muted colors, I'd like to see what you come up with. Maybe you could just try making one added color the dominant one?

Good effort Larry! I agree with Carolyn for this entry. Yes, the sun flare is a bit much here. There are a few bright spots in ths sky, above the tree with the sun flare that maybe could be cloned out.
