Lake and Fog

This is a picture I made 2 days ago on a lake about 20 miles from home. It was just after sunrise with some nice fog over the lake. I also liked the opening where the sunlight was hitting the background hill top. Not long after I made this the fog was so thick you couldn't even see the lake. Another wonderful quiet morning to be out in nature. Please view the large version. Thanks!

Very serene shot Nick. I like the colors in the foreground, as well as the calm feel of the water. I agree, the sunlight hitting the hill top in the background adds to the depth of the shot. Nice work! :toast:

Geez, Nick, how often do you get fog?? Seems like your blessed with it every other shot. This is just brilliant IMO. If Adamus is the master of the dramatic you're the master of the understated--id really pay to see what you would do with some alpine peak and wildflowers, maybe it would suck...i dunno

Thanks very much Michael and Stan!
Stan, Yes, we get alot of fog here, especially in the spring. A couple of mornings a week is common if not more. Come fall it happens again for awhile it seems. The Wisconsin River Valley is pretty much known for fog. Also Lone Rock gets really cold in the winter. I think the record was 54 below zero F, and not with the wind chill. It is known for one of the coldest places in the nation....sometimes.
Yes, I would probably suck at beautiful alpine peaks and other really pretty things... Thanks guys!

Understated or not I think this conveys a quiet and tranquil feel to it and definitely conveys your feeling that this is "another wonderful quiet morning to be out in nature." While I enjoy a dramatic photo as much as anyone I identify most often with the more understated photos because they characterize those times that I have experienced a peaceful moment in nature that provides a sense of calmness in the midst of a hectic world.

Nice how all the lines in this image lead to the sunlit hill. Excellent composition. I also like the beautiful light and color on the fg vegetation and, of course, the fog as a mood maker. Beautiful work.

Really, really nicely done Nick. This has a "western" feel to it. Not one of those intimate landscapes that those in the midwest and east have to concentrate on. Could you send some fog this way and make it on a weekend please. :toast:

On the way Tom. The big fan is blowing your way...wait, our normal west wind is coming from the east tonight. Been setting by the outside fireplace with our 4 1/2 year old Grand Daughter....what a great time!...and I noticed the smoke is going west this evening. Send some your way asap....
Thanks to all of you for your comments. Nick

Beautiful Nick, I like the contrast between the sharp colorful FG and the misty muted BG.

Wow, this is beautifully done, Nick. The thin veil of fog really sets the tone for the serene mood and that warm light on the hill where the fog has parted is sublime to say the least. :toast:

Nick, your image conveys the atmosphere of this spring morning wonderfully to me. Especially the foreground elements let me feel like standing in the middle of the scene. The hill in the background adds a lot in my opinion and makes for a pleasant focal point to my eye.
