This is a detail of the old Springfield School, near Columbia,CA, that has long since been abandoned and has fallen into ruin.

Preston,IMO, this is a fascinating wall. The reds are beautifully exposed. The black pattern of missing bricks leads the eye to the black and white portion of the wall on the left, then down to the bricks that run across the bottom. The black crack on the right leads the eye back to those 'missing pieces.'

I would like to make one small suggestion and that is to crop the image just slightly from the right, reducing the area of plaster over the bricks. I think this would help balance the image and the flow around the image.

regards,

Carol

Really like the graphic appeal of this image, Preston. The nice pure blacks of the hole in the wall and the crack descending to the right are really nice. Also really like how the bricks appear to be on the brink of falling into the hole. Have mixed feeling about the strip of what appears to be a door on the left hand side. Wonder about a bit of cropping, cropping out the door on the left hand side and a bit off the bottom, focusing the viewers attention solely on the nice lines of the brick, the hole and the cracks, and the mortar or plaster on the right. Just a thought.

Hi All,

I decided to crop from left, and a bit from the bottom. I also used a TK Bright Lights mask to pull more detail from the plaster on the right.

So, do you prefer the original, or the re-worked image? Thanks for your comments,

I am definitely preferring the repost, Preston. The left side in the original was an eye magnet for me.

Both versions work for their own reasons. What a wall!

Good abstract, Preston. The broken area (black opening) resembles a lantern shape to me.
I prefer the 2nd vesion.
