So Many Arches

Another from Fort Pike in east New Orleans. This was shot before Katrina, which I understand damaged the place badly. Haven't been back since the storm, but I'm headed over there in the morning, in hopes of finding some more comps. I processed this one in color because I thought the staining in the brick added a bit of character. I had to dumb the image down on compression to get it down to a reasonable size, so some detail is lost.

Bill, this is great. I can imagine it in B/W. What I really like is the wonderful curve to the arches as they recede in the distance. Add to this the pattern of the floor in the FG, and I think you have a winner.

PS Congratulations on the WP; assume it was for this photo.

I might be wrong, but I think the curving concrete line on the floor was where the rear wheel of a pivoting canon would have traveled. Are there gun ports on the wall to the right in each of these bays? An idea I have is to place camera about 6-12 inches off the floor, centered over one of those curving concrete lines on the floor, using a wide angle lens. I'm thinking of both horizontal and vertical orientation for the camera.

Another great image from this place Bill. I too like the green on the walls and the great depth looking down through the archways.

Bill,

Very nice color and texture in this one. I like the arches diminishing in size, too. I think this would be nice in B&W, as well.

Love the receding arches and how the eye is lead into the scene by the apparent trail of long stones set into the floor. Wonderful color and textures throughout. Beautifully done.

I sure do like all the different colors in the bricks and mortar. The lighting adds a nice shine, especially to the floor.
