Canyonlands Light Show w/repost

This is off an unmarked trail in Canyonlands National Park, Utah. I will give more details when I post the next image although most of you guys know where this is anyway. Basically we hiked into this area yesterday afternoon and stayed there until almost midnight, hiking back out from a fairly dangerous place with nothing but headlamps. I have been here 3 times hoping for a great sunset and last night was one of the best I have ever seen. It lasted for over an hour giving absolutely incredible shades of pinks, reds and blues. I chose to silhouette the rock formations and let the light speak for itself. Hope you like it! There has been very little PP here...sharpening and hot spot removal.

I will have a kiva shot tomorrow if I get it processed.

Wonderful transition of color in this scene, Jack. I could also see this working as a pano with a small bit cropped from the bottom and top.

Sky and silhouettes are interesting. Seems like a bit too much black on the bottom.

What a beautiful sky! Western sunsets are special indeed. I love this just as is, but agree with Ed that it would also make a nice pano.

My thoughts too Jack. This has a very real feel to it; I would love to have been there to share it with you. As a photo though, the darkness here is overwhelming the beautiful color.

Beautiful sunset, Jack. Must have been wonderful being there for this. I too like the idea of a pano for this just to eliminate some of the very dark area. Maybe crop out about 2/3 of the black on the bottom and just a little up top. Just a thought that seems to work well for me, but might not be the look you want  . A beautiful sunset no matter how we look at it.

Beautiful glow to the sky, but I agree about losing most of the bottom black area.

That pano is awesome! I think there is an improved balance to the original photo.

Pano is the way to go. I love that light blue streak in the sky. Nice work.

Love the color and the silhouettes. My first thought was to suggest a crop of the bottom quarter to something of a pano. Your repost looks outstanding. Gorgeous.

Jack,

Pano - Bingo! That's awesome. I love, love the blue at the top. In fact maybe even bring back a bit more up top, keep the bottom cropped.

Oh, to have been there to watch this evolve over time. Simple, beautiful.

The pano is nice and I can’t wait to see your kiva shot. I was just there and struck out in the sunset department.
