I think its a sarcophaga carnaria, but I'm probably wrong! I'm finding fly IDing very difficult....
Canon 7D, EF 100mm f/2.8L macro IS. 1/250 sec, f/4.5, ISO 400. Fullframe and handheld.

Excellent catch on this quick fly. Good detail in the body notwithstanding the dark color. Thanks for adding it to the fly collection.

Nice detail and exposure, hard to do with such a dark subject.

Nice shot -- I like the concentration on the head here. The narrow DOF does a great job of isolating the fly without giving up any important detail.
ID: Sure looks like the common checkered flesh fly to me, but I agree that fly identification is confusing.

I think you've captured some great detail here, with the depth of field placed exactly where it's supposed to be. You may notice that this photo has rather few views compared to the others around it, which is probably due to the fact that the thumbnail doesn't look very striking. Maybe cropping it a bit tighter would help with that. Generally - but I realize that this may be old news - the most successful photographs around here seem to be those that grab the viewer's interest by looking striking as a thumbnail, and then back that up with great detail when viewed large. Just my gut feeling... but I guess that's not too far off reality.
