I wanted to come away from my visit to the Galapagos with one - just one - shot of a Sally Lightfoot that I liked. Yes, they've been photographed a million times, and they're not exactly a challenging subject, but I wanted one of my own that shows the crab as I see them: *scary* alien-looking creatures. For me, they are the stuff of nightmares. Which is why I was using a long lens.

Here, the crab is on black lava rock, with more OOF black lava rock in the background. This might make the image seem a bit too dark for some?

As always, C&C much appreciated.

I think you captured the alien scary very well Rebecka. You got that underneath perspective well and great DOF. I think I would like it if the under carapace was just a little more bright it might bring it out just a bit more. No matter what a great shot of a great subject. :toast:

Doesn't look too dark to me, in fact the darker colors of the rocks really make the crab stand out well! I love the straight on view of the crab, it almost looks like it's standing its own ground!

Like very much this one- Beautiful contrast with the dark basalt environment, the crab looks like a piece of fresh lava here- Your exposure job seems perfect as well- Well done, Fabio

What a beauty! I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder, but your eye-level, dark BG treatment really does bring out the good points of this colorful creature. Maybe it's not "challenging" to approach, but I'm sure most people don't make a shot this good.
