Red Carnation

Gallery: FloraPosted January 14, 2012367 views25 comments

Red carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus). Researching the name of this flower I found out that it's the Ohio State Flower. I can say good choice. Shot @ f5.6, 1/45, ISO 200. Any comments welcome.

Beautiful image, Chris! I love the circular symmetry of the flower petals. And the BG absolutely makes the image complete.

Chris: I love the energy implied by this; its even evident in the thumbnail. Superb DOF/plane of focus management. 2 thumbs up! >=))>

Chris...love the concept and end result ...a tad bit brightness and contrast could have made this even better ....But a cracker anyways ...well done ..

What a unique view, both of the POV choice but also the stage of the flower growth! Great focus on the interesting swirls of the flower set off against a wonderful BG.

What a cool photo. The smooth backdrop is broken by a sharply defined, starkly contrasting subject, with its impact further enhanced by the symmetry (or pseudo-symmetry, but whatever

). Excellent.

I really like the pov of this image and the way the flower stands out from the background. I also like the shape of the flower, very different.

Chris:
What a fabulous image! A very unusual take on a carnation. Like the light radiating from the red spiral petals in the center.

Beautifully done, Chris. I like the obvious but what creates more interest for me are the 4 radiating lines in the background which draw my attention to the obvious

I like the implied energy to this... reminds me of a jet engine with the background radiating lines and the pinking shears cut of the petals. Very unique indeed.

The detail and texture captured in the red bloom are exceptional, but what makes this for me are the green radiating lines in the bg. Very, very well done!

Just superb, the whole combination of the textures and patterns is great and the dark saturated green and red is a stunning contrast.
