Beulach Ban Falls, Cape Breton Highlands National Park, Nova Scotia

I have not posted any autumn foliage images this season so with winter just around the corner I thought I would post one from last year taken on the Cabot Trail in Cape Breton. Thanks for having a look.

Hi Eva, quite an unusal scene from you. It is a vertical shot, something you don't do often I think. And of course the subject matter. I am used to see skies and beaches, not waterfalls and foliage. But it is a very well crafted image. I love the details and the delicate rendition of the water. The foliage looks perfect too.

The composition and color feel very natural as is the look of the water. The bit of bright rock in the upper left bugs me a little but not enough to really like this image overall.

Beautiful terraces and cascades in this waterfall! The yellow foliage just adds another dimension of beauty to it. Nice!

Very nice Eva. The water looks wonderful dropping over all those terraces. The fall color is a nice extra here too. I do agree that the bright upper left corner is a bit of a distraction, but not enough that I don't still really enjoy this beautiful falls.

Fall color and waterfalls are always a great combination, and this is a splendid example. Beautiful cascading series that leads the eye through the frame...very nice, Eva.

Thanks everyone for your comments. As for the glaring upper left corner, I will have another look tomorrow (long day of meetings at real work and just want to relax). I did try and burn it down but web conversion may have negated that. I'll have another look tomorrow.

Didl - Thanks. No this is not my norm though I do like deviation every now and then. Thanks. http://www.naturephotographers.net/imagecritique/ic.cgi?a=vp&pr=182232&CGISESSID=5443ffaa8c66a914b961569e3b8eef0d&u=28092 . I rarely take verticals as you mention too.

Ian - Thank you. Until you mentioned it on the Harris and Lewis workshop when we were photographing Storr Falls in Skye on our way back, never really consciously though about it but this shutter speed is certainly my favorite too for water falls. This was taken last October.

Love the rock layers with the water cascading down, and the addition of the autumn foliage works really well. A beautiful autumn image.

The water and foliage complement each other very nicely. The composition is fine but it's also a slight nit for me in that the foliage seems a little to off to the side for me, as if it were intruding into the scene a little. Either zooming in or shooting more from the right might address this balance.

A very lovely take on this delicate looking falls. The composition is making good use of the layered steps and I also like the inclusion of the autumn colors as an accent.

Eva, the interplay of horizontal and vertical elements makes your image really interesting to me. The rock at the bottom anchores the composition nicely for me.

I just think of cropping the top of the falls as this part distracts my attention a bit, but this might be purely a matter of opinion.

Very nice shot, Eva. I like the water texture and the many layers of the falls, and the branches add a nice splash of color to the scene even if perhaps they are slightly intrusive. I think you made a good trade-off in your approach to composing the scene.

Such a beautiful and graceful cascade made so by the comp and chosen shutter speed. Love it, Eva.

Eva,

Do I remember seeing this location last year? I know we've seen thousands of images since then, but this looks familiar maybe? Well, of course that doesn't matter or have anything to do with this image, that I really like. Great combination of cascades and autumn foliage. The cascading water even has a look like there are icicles clinging to the rocks.

The only suggestion I have is a crop up from the bottom to remove the rock. It's not a distraction per se, but I don't think it's adding to overall aethetics of the scene. Nice work!
