Mangolia Warbler

by Luke Ormand

This was photographed about 30 minutes after my previous post of the coopers hawk at Jones Beach State Park. The Magnolia Warbler is a new species for me - and a bit tough to ID given the drastically different breeding and non-breeding plumages of this species.

Nikon D300s 300 f4 + 1.7X TC HH
f/8
1/800s
ISO 500

Cropped to approximately 55%, sharpened using smart sharpen, levels adjustments in CS5 on 27" iMac

Nice shot, nice and clear with good detail. I like the habitat but I think you could trim a bit to show the bird off more. Magnolia Warbler, thanks for the ID. I had a couple of these in a tree outside my kitchen window, Very fast little birds I couldn't get a shot. Very nice catch Luke.

Any sharp warbler image is an accomplishment, so kudos for that right off. I also like the setting and the two curved stems that frame her. The large photo is definitely a nicer view and shows just how much detail you captured. Not many people get this good a look at a 'life bird', and few still have a quality image to remember it by. :toast:

What a little cutie and it stands out beautifully from the surrounding vegetation. Good details in the feathers. An impressive catch.
