Whole Title: Gentle Spectacle: Waking In the Shadow of the Mountain

This shore is in the shadow of the mountains, so it does not get direct morning light. The result is a low-contrast, muted scene, with just a hint of the distant sunrise washing across the mountain tops. It's not the kind of image that will stop people in their tracks and make jaws drop, but for some who do take the time to look, I hope it may bring some of the sense of the peace I felt as I drifted through the mist in my canoe, listening to the loons.

QUESTION: I wonder if this is one of those images that depends on my memory of the moment to make it work. Does it do anything for you?

Please see the larger version.

Wayne,

It has a very peaceful serene feel to it, but to relate to a real experience in a canoe probably resonates more deeply, however I can still make the connection with the memory. Nice.

the detail is so much more enjoyable in the large version. It certainly works for me, Wayne, much as you have described it yourself. Not a jaw dropper, but beautiful in the detail of an early morning. :toast:

Wayne, I'm sitting here viewing the awesome layers of light and mist rising from the water. The colors are awesome--greens, purples, roses, golds. Beautiful.

Good job. If I had a wish, it would be that you had captured even more of the rolling hills,

Regards,

Carol

This is a lovely scene Wayne and really makes me wish I was in a canoe there that morning myself. So yes, it works for me! :toast:

This image indeed works for me and strikes a chord in me. As I love canoeing too, I would be glad to do it one a lake like this. I especially appreciate the natural colors and plain composition, yet full of details.

I must admit that the frame is a bit distracting for me, but that might be purely a matter of opinion.

Thanks for sharing.

this is lovely. In particular, the early light on the ridge and the mist ion the valley tug at my heart.

This works great for me, and I don't have any memory of it! Absolutely beautiful - really makes me want to visit there and experience this - as do most all of your images. It's kinda like the Samuel Adams beer commercials - I don't even drink beer, but those commercials make me want to have one! That's when you know an image (or commercial) succeeds!

Ah, but the best beers don't need any commercials, Bill!
This is an awesome shot, Wayne, surprised youd even have any doubts about it working. The mist alone is worth the price of admission, and the light in back with those great layers and angles takes it up a notch. It's right up there with your top shelf work, IMO. :wavey:

I think you've captured the mood of a very crisp and cool morning very well here, Wayne. I'm really enjoying the compressed lines and shapes of the trees and hills from the use of a tele lens. A very beautiful scene indeed. Great shot!

I believe mornings like this benefit us more than the jaw droppers. There is little time for me as a photographer to stop and drink in something this peaceful when the fireworks are going off. Too busy working comps, exposure, and chimping the lcd. Excellent work, Wayne.
