The"Gastlosen"Alpenglow

I took this one last july. One friday afternoon the weather looked like it was going to be a perfect evening for some nice and dramatic sunset in the mountains. So I went to the western part of the swiss alps. There's a mountain chain called "The Gastlosen".A very impressive limestone mountain chain. When i left home we had some real nice clouds in the sky but when I arrived in the valley below the mountains most of the clouds were gone and when I finally made it to the top of a hillside near the "Gastlosen" the sky was completley blue. Anyway, I set up my camera and was hoping for some clouds...........but I witnessed a great "Alpenglow" instead. 7 single shots stitched together in photoshop.

Really nice light and natural color. This is going to make an excellent large print!

Love the light on the mountains. It is also a very inviting shot in that it looks like a great place to go hiking. Good job on the pano.

Bill, your panorama composition is perfectly balanced for me. I especially appreciate the asymmetry, which makes it more lively to me and invites to explore all the details. The blue sky accentuates the glow beautifully in my opinion.

Bill, I think this is a great graphical design. The deep orange-browns and light grays look overly sharpened but on the plus side is the wonderful green element on the right which helps lead the eye back to the mountains. The pines in silhouette on the left stop the eye from leaving the image and the green bank on the left sweeps the eye around to the base. The glow of the mountains against the blue gradient in the sky makes up for lack of clouds.

Sorry you didn't get your clouds.

Sincerely,

Carol

Wow, that's some impressive alpenglow! Nice composition and great job handling the shadows and glowing highlights. I agree with Morris -- should make a spectacular wall-covering print.

Truly beautiful, even with a cloudless sky. You have balanced the warm and cool tones nicely. The light is incredible.

this is just amazing Bill, i like how you control the exposure between the light & shadow

maybe a little crop from the top will be better IMO

beautiful alpengow and interesting comp... I could also see a version with a little less of the cloudless sky to put more focus on the mountain, hill shapes and forest...

Been there (though on the other side of the chain). A really impressive place. The large version of your photograph shows excellent detail and makes me want to go back. Great job on working out the exposure for both highlights and shadows.
