Apologies for being a little quite of late. Been caught up in a bit a work.

Here is momma moose on an evening stroll with her baby in Denali Natl Park, Alaska.

Nikon D5000, 70-300 VR @ 116mm, f5,6, 1/125, -1 ev

It was a fairly dark cloudy evening and i didnt want to miss out on any action, hence the settings. Should have shot at f7.1 or so, but it all happened a little too quick. Thankfully by sticking together they tried their best to be in focus  Increased the exposure by 1/3 in post processing.

Anand :wavey:

ps: Just noticed that i messed up cropping the top/right (after a slight rotation)

Love the colours in this picture Anand, the placement of the Moose in the frame as well as the detail you captured in both.

If this were mine, I'd crop this more into a pano, slicing off the top part of the frame leaving none of the sky showing, and possibly even slicing a little off the bottom as well.

Whatever the case, still a very nice image, well done!

Nice shot - I immediately thought autumn in Denali when I saw the thumbnail, love those fall colors! Too bad about the sky, still a nice one though.

Great photo! Some of the sky, if not all certainly can go w/o hurting the image IMHO. I really like your composition, color which shouts Alaska, and the detail in the moose. The larger post is spectacular IMHO. Wish I had taken it! Thanks for sharing.

What a gorgeous setting Anand. I would try to darken the sky a bit as its brightness works distracting. Other than that I love this.

Anand, there is so much I like about this image. First, the mother and her baby are in such nice positions next to each other. They both seem to be sharp and you have catchlights in both of their eyes. Second, the scenery is gorgeous all by itself. The red plants make the green trees stand out and the green trees make the red plants stand out. The only thing I could suggest to make this even just a little better would be to crop off the sky or, as Vincent suggested, see if you can darken it. I would love to see a repost.

I would love to capture a pair of moose in such a nice setting as this. The red and green color scheme is beautiful and the moose are well placed in the frame. The sky is definitely problematic for me too though.

Thank you all for your kind words and the suggestions regarding the sky. Will have a rework posted by the end of the weekend.

When i went back and looked at the RAW, the sky was blue. While increasing the exposure and then contrast globally, the blues had turned pale white. Here, i selectively increased the exposure on the rest of the image, leaving out the sky. Also opened up the exposure a little more and held back on the contrast.

Anand, the sky is definitely much better in the repost, but the exposure/contrast in the first image is much better. The foliage in the repost seems a bit washed out compared to the first image and does not have nearly the same impact. This photo is definitely worth the effort to get it right as it is one of the best moose images that I have ever seen.

Love this image :toast: :toast: :toast:
The sky is better in the second image, but the contrast and exposure is far better in the first image. Could you find a balance between the two?

Like the placement of the moose and the nice fall colors. The soft light is nice as well.

Anand, LOVE the colors inn this. Nice setting and I am fine with the crop, but agree with Vincent about selectively darkening the sky would make this even better...but I would crop out the sky, because then you would loose the tops of the trees and to me, the BG and setting really make this go over the top.

Nice image here. Too few outside AK get to experience the magic of fall here. Clearly you made the most of it. Nicely done.
