The Stillness of Dawn

The hills around Livermore, CA have heavy winds and there are many thousands of wind generators to help provide power to this heavily-populated area. While they do mar a beautiful scene, I guess they are more environmentally-friendly than many other types of power generators.

This was taken at dawn a few weeks ago, on my way to yosemite.

Simply wonderful Sandy! I'm a fan of strong graphic images, as is the market. This shouts "stock" for uses on a wide range of fronts.

Well done!

Nicely seen. What are the chances of capturing a sun star between the windmills ?

Phil - great idea - I'm sure it's possible from some of the vantage places, since there are so many - but here, the sun is coming up in the wrong position, and I was already illegally pulled over on the freeway shoulder for a quick grab shot.
I might try hiking up there some day to see..

"Good eye" for sure, Sandy. I like the fact that the sun is not visible. Wonderful comp. Terrific color combination. I can see why it was selected as a WP. Congratulations!

Congrats on the wp. this is a great image with the repeating pattern of the wind turbines against the empty sky. The curve of the hill is a strong graphic element. Very nice

This is really nice Sandy. Very fine composition. If this is on the north side of the interstate, I think I stopped here over twenty years ago on a business trip to let one of my co-workers make the image. His was no where near as good.

Very nice image Sandy! Great comp and nice diagonal split of light and dark. Nice strong image, as Hank said.

Great shot, Sandy! I have mixed feeling about the mills--better than coal etc, but i hate to see all the 'marred landscapes' (and dead birds!) Cell towers are worse though--at least windmills have a weird sort of romantic aestheticism to them...
