Denali Pond

A pond near the lodge at Denali NP (it was still Mt. McKinley NP back in the day when I was there). Another film oldie from 1983.... Scanned on my V750 with betterscanning.com film holer. Looks a little soft to me but think it was my focus back then. I still like the color and subdued light. Mamiya 645 Medium Format Camera and Ektachrome 100 Transparency Film.

Thanks for looking and for any comments and critiques. Back to some of my older work since I guess my last post was a bust.

Like the greens with what looks like just a hint of fall color. I can hardly wait, 2 months and 26 days until my first trip to Alaska. Thanks for sharing.

Eva, I like the almost symmetrical composition. The middleground seems slightly oversharpened. The texture in the clouds is great!

nice layers here eva - but what i particularly enjoy is the scene in the middle layer - gorgeous range of colours there.

I like how you composed this scene. I also like the texture in the sky.

this is wonderful. Even the thumbnail gave my heart that little ache (you know, the one you get when you look on something incredibly beautiful, yet somehow fleeting?)

Nice shot, Eva. I really like the variety of colors in the midground and overall this is very pleasing even though it is outside of the "magic hour" or whatever I'm supposed to call it.

A very pretty scene Eva. I like the color in this too and the grass around the pond looks really nice.

Lovely scene Eva. Alaska at it best ,wonderful colors, gotta love that film..You have inspired me to go back and look at some older Transparency from my time in Denali. Spent alot time there in the late 80's and 90's. Nice work Eva!

Eva,

Lovely image of the Boreal forest and pond. Looks like this one has scanned up nicely too although I will comment on the color/saturation. Maybe it's just me, but I see what I'd come some cyan fringing in the water at the edges of tree reflections as well as along the shore and grasses. To me, the cyan looks a little on the over saturated side, and considering the gray overcast, it also doesn't seem like it belongs. The greens in spots look a little too much as well. And this looks like a great candidate for Tony's Darks Triple Play. Have you tried his new actions yet? Great tools.

Anyway, don't mean to hammer this one too much Eva. I think it's a beautiful scene and image and worth the tweaks if you've a mind to.

Thanks everyone for your comments and critiques.

Thanks for the input Lon. I do have Tony's Triple play actions but have not tried them yet. Guess I'll start with this image. The color is very close to what was on the Ektachrome transparency (which tends towards the blues) but I will take a closer look. BTW - I never touch the saturation or vibrance sliders.

I agree with Lon, and love all the green tonality. I might take about 1/2 off the sky too. Wonderful scene though.

Love it, Eva. The greens and yellows in the grasses are beautiful as presented. I might crop a bit of the sky to focus more attention on the pond but that is a minor suggestion. Wonderful image.

Crop some sky because that light on the far bank is making all that greenery glow! And the dark trees are a wonderful contrast.
