Gorge Sunrise
by Kerry Leibowitz
My first post here in ages; nearly two years, I think.
I spent most of the last week of April in the Red River Gorge area of the Daniel Boone National Forest in eastern Kentucky. It's a location that fits the bill in terms of what I've been looking for lately: within a reasonable distance of my bases in Illinois and Indiana while still producing scenes that are fresh and enticing.
This shot was taken moments after the sun crested a distant ridge line from the Swift Creek Overlook. As was the case the vast majority of the time I was in the Gorge area, I had the place entirely to myself.
D700, 80-400 @ approximately 300 mm; f/8 at something like 1/400 sec, no filters, tripod mounted (as always), release, MLU, etc.
PP work was limited to cloning out a couple of dust spots and modestly desaturating (yes, desaturating) the image because it was, in my view, too intense.
